Demands
Ambala: The malis working with the Ambala Sadar Municipal Council who are members of the Nagarpalika Sarv Karamchari Sangh, Haryana, have left the Sangh and joined Nagarpalika Jal Vitran Karamchari Sangh today. At a meeting, the malis unanimously expressed their lack of confidence in the leadership of Jai Bhagwan Sharma, president of Nagarpalika Sarv Karamchari Sangh. The members said he did not look after their interests. Their demands include a raise in salary and regularisation of members having served more than 240 days.
Competition
Ambala: Siksha, a student of SD Vidya Mandir, Panipat, was adjudged the best painter at the state level painting competition held here yesterday. The competition was organised by the Regional Publicity Office, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, at Ambala Cantonment to celebrate the 50th year of independence. Manmohan from the DAV Public School Naraingarh and Mohit Gupta from Tagore Bal Niketan Senior Secondary School Karnal were placed second and third respectively.
Charge
Ambala: D. P. S. Seth assumed the charge of Chief General Manager, Telecom, Haryana Circle, yesterday. Earlier, he was Principal General Manager, Punjab Circle, with headquarters at Chandigarh. Seth succeeds Ramesh Chadra who is now Principal General Manager, Punjab Circle.
Damaged
Ambala: Two telephone exchanges of 1000 lines ILT (Integrated Local and Trunk) and 256 lines CDOT at Lalru near here were damaged because of sudden high voltage on power supply lines today. O. R. Kataria, General Manager, Telecom, Ambala, said the power plant had also been damaged. He said repairs were being made on a war footing. PCOs were being opened in the exchange premises to help the people make local calls, he said.
Appointments
Ambala: D.P.S. Seth took charge as Chief General Manager, Telecom, Haryana circle, today, from the outgoing CGMT Ramesh Chandra who has been transfered to the Punjab Circle as its principal general manager.
Ambala: Subhash Khanna, a private practitioner from Gurgaon was elected the next president of the Indian Medical Association, Haryana at a meeting of the working committee for the year 1998-99. D.S. Jaspal and Rohtas Yadav were elected senior vice-president and vice-president respectively. Rest of the functionaries would be appointed by the president later.
Dharamsala: Naresh Kumar Lath has recently joined as Sub Divisional Magistrate, Nurpur. He was earlier posted in Bharmour tribal belt on the same position.
Crime
Solan: Prem Pal Ranta, Judicial Magistrate (first class) has convicted one Kanwar Singh, resident of Ramtari village of Rohru area in Shimla district to undergo simple imprisonment for six months and to pay the fine of Rs 1000. According to additional district attorney K.S. Chauhan the accused had picked the pocket of one Dipan Lal of the same village at Parwanoo.
Mishap
Sundernagar: Jagidsh Prashad Gupta (24), a resident of Kalorash, district Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh, was killed in a road accident last night. Returning from Manali, Gupta was going to his native place, the police said. The body has been sent for the postmortem examination and the Punjab Roadways bus, involved in the accident, has been impounded. The relatives of the deceased have been informed, the police added.
