Jalandhar: Teachers working in the government colleges of Punjab will take mass casual leave on July 21 to participate in the march to Parliament organised by the Federation of University and College Teachers Organsiations AIFUCTO. General secretary of the Government College Teachers Association, Punjab Jagir Singh Kahlon said a large number of teachers from various government colleges of the state would participate in the march to Parliament at New Delhi. The AIFUCTO, an apex body of about three lakh teachers working in 207 universities and 9278 colleges across the country, has organised the march for demanding implementation of the UGC recommended pay scales in toto.

Jalandhar: The Punjab State Electricity Board PSEB Employees Joint Action Committee has deferred its proposed state level dharna in front of the board head quarters on July 22. Committee secretary H.S. Minhas said that the struggle committee would give a notice for strike on July 27 to the board officials. He said from August, the PSEB employees would display black flags in the field and a token strike would be observed on August 19.

Gurdaspur: Three nursing homes at Derababa Nanak town in this district have been sealed for running an unapproved course of electro homeopathy. Sources in the office of civil surgeon here said nursing homes sealed on Saturday by police on the direction of the civil surgeon were J. S. Kahlon Nursing Home, Mahesh Maternity Home and Jiya Lal Children Hospital. The sources said the civil surgeon had served notice on these homes a week ago, warning them against running the course which is not recognised in Punjab. But the owners of these nursing homes ignored the warning, following which the civil surgeon asked the police to seal them.

Amritsar: Rajiv Randhawa alias Rajiv Sharma, the chief of the Tigers of Sikhland, a terrorist outfit and his accomplice, Rashpal Singh were yesterday produced before duty magistrate on the expiry of the one-day police remand. The magistrate sent Rajiv into judical custody till July 23 and extended the police remand of Rashpal Singh for one more day. A large number of human rights activists were present in the court, who raised slogans against the police.

Rally
Chandigarh: The All-India Congress Committee is going to organise a massive protest rally on July 28 in Delhi near Parliament. Issues like price rise, lawlessness, suicide by farmers, shortage of power, non-availability of drinking water and the total failure of BJP government on all other fronts would be debated and highlighted. The Senior Congress leaders from all over the country would address the rally, according to a release.

Resentment
Chandigarh: The proposal of the Punjab State Electricity Board PSEB to effect a 33 per cent hike in power rates in all sectors, except agriculture, approved by Akali Dal-BJP combine is shocking for the people of Punjab. This has been condemned by Senior Youth Congress leader and vice president of state unit Amarjit Singh Tikka. In a statement issued here he appealed to all like minded parties to form a single platform against this unnecessary burden on urbanites.

Cong meet
Chandigarh: Punjab Pardesh Mahila Congress PMC held a special meeting of the state district and block office-bearers of the unit at Congress Bhawan, here. Malti Thapar, former Punjba minister and president PMC presided over the meeting. Sudha Joshi, former MP and vice-president All India Mahila Congress and others from the district who addressed the meeting, were critical of the functioning of the Central and state governments.
