ULFA has taken the Union and the State government for a ride. That8217;s what a high-level four member delegation led by Home Secretary Vinod Kumar Duggal felt on Monday, when they visited the site of the two bomb blasts on Sunday.
Duggal, accompanied by Joint Secretary North-East, DGP BSF Mitra and DGP CRPF JK Sinha, visited the spot and later met Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. ULFA has not yet claimed responsibility for the incident, but the meeting concluded on a note that ULFA8217;s senior leaders had bought time on pretext of 8220;peace talks8221; with the Centre.
8220;ULFA was completely destroyed. Its senior cadre initiated the peace talk, which we now feel was a tamasha. They actually used this time to mobilise themselves to carry out the attack,8221; Sinha told The Indian Express over the phone.
Intelligence inputs received during the meeting with Gogoi reveal that ULFA went on a fresh recruitment drive and also strengthened itself monetarily, when pretending to be interested in 8220;talks8221; with the government.
The four-member delegation will meet government functionaries again on Tuesday to chalk out a strategy to chase out ULFA from the state. Gogoi and the Chief Secretary are also expected to attend the meeting.
