MUMBAI, MARCH 31: Chief Minister Narayan Rane today demanded a grant of Rs 1,000 crore from the Central Government for the development of civic amenities in Mumbai.

Addressing a large public gathering present at the renaming ceremony of the Mumbai airport after Chhatrapati Shivaji, the chief minister said that while the state government and the civic administration were doing their best to improve the civic infrastructure, they did not have the resources to deal with the massive flow of migrants into the metropolis.

He said that the Mumbai was already overpopulated and the addition of thousands of migrants virtually everyday had put a severe burden on the transportation system and other civic amenities.
