The Rajasthan Police today filed a case against BB Mohanty, a senior IPS officer in Orissa and father of Biti Mohanty, who has been convicted of raping a German tourist in Alwar and who jumped parole in December last year.

Alleging that BB Mohanty had not been co-operating with the police and that he was the one 8216;quite keen8217; on Biti getting a parole, state Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria said his role was quite suspect. The government has also issued a warrant for the attachment of Mohanty8217;s property and recovery of Rs 50,000, which he had pledged through surety bonds for his son8217;s parole. The senior IPS officer is required to comply with the warrant of attachment of property within seven days.

8220;It was Mohanty, a senior IPS official himself, who signed the bail bond and requested for the parole on the pretext of Biti8217;s mother being ill. Rather than behaving in a responsible manner, he did not co-operate with our team, which visited Cuttack in search of Biti last month,8217;8217; said Kataria. He said the state government would write a letter to the Orissa authorities, requesting them to co-operate and take legal action against Mohanty. 8220;We have already filed a case against him as we believe that Mohanty had manipulated the truth to get Biti out on a parole and that he has the knowledge about the whereabouts of his son,8217;8217; added Kataria.

Meanwhile, there are reports that Biti would soon surrender in Jaipur, probably within a week8217;s time and that he had been in Cuttack for a fortnight undergoing psychiatric treatment. However, neither the Rajasthan Police nor the Orissa Police confirmed this.

The Orissa Police chief said all help would be extended to the Rajasthan Police but there was no question of taking any action against Mohanty as of now as the police of another state have filed the case against him. 8220;His role is being questioned but nothing has been proved. Moreover, it is the Rajasthan Police, who are still looking into the matter. In case they need something, we will definitely co-operate,8217;8217; said Orissa DGP Amarananda Pattanayak over phone.
