
In the wake of the terror attacks in Mumbai where the terrorists targeted commuters at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus CST, the West Bengal government and Eastern Railways has strengthened security at the important railways stations in the state.
The government has deployed commandos armed with automatic weapons and bullet proof jackets at four important railway stations 8211; Howrah, Sealdah, Kharagpur and Silliguri.
8220;We are taking all measures to prevent any disaster that may hit the passengers,8221; said Dilip Mitra, Additional Director General, Government Railway Police.
Half a platoon nearly 15 personnel of commandos has been deployed at each of these stations. The commandos are designated as a part of the Quick Reaction Team QRT to tackle any unforeseen situation. Bunkers have been erected at these stations.
8220;The commandos will man the entry points of the station,8221; said Barun Mullick, Superintendent of Railway Police, Sealdah. The Railway Protection Force RPF has also beefed up vigil at the important installations. 8220;We have deployed 175 personnel and 25 officers to keep a vigil at stations,8221; said Ashis Kumar, Deputy Commandant of RPF.
