
Judicial custody for PDP chief
KOZHIKODE: People8217;s Democratic Party PDP chairman Abdul Nasser Madani was today remanded to judicial custody till April 15. The remand order was given by chief judicial magistrate K K Utharan before whom Madani was produced this evening. Madani was sent to Kannur central jail following his counsel8217;s plea that he be provided jail accommodation with the facility of a European closet. His bail application will come up for hearing on April 3. Madani was arrested in a case registered at the Kasaba police station here relating to sedition, criminal conspiracy and arms act.
ULFA attack
GUWAHATI: Suspected ULFA militants gunned down a police sub-inspector and injured a constable on Tuesday at Golibandha under Sarthebari police station in Barpeta district. The deceased had been identified as sub-inspector Mahmuddin Rahman while the injured constable as Nripen Barua.
Urea scam case
HYDERABAD: P V Prabhakar Rao, son of former prime minister P V NarasimhaRao, today appeared before the special court for economic offence here in connection with the multi-crore urea scam case. Special judge M Bhaskar directed Rao to furnish a surety for Rs 10,000 and a personal bond for the same amount.
Bail for Mayawati
NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court today granted anticipatory bail to former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati, who apprehended arrest by CBI in connection with the alleged corruption case pertaining to purchase of floating pumps by her government. A division bench comprising observed that as Mayawati8217;s name did not figure in the FIR lodged by CBI on March 18, she was entitled to anticipatory bail.
