Rane sacks 5 ministers
MUMBAI: Maharashtra Chief Minister Narayan Rane on Saturday removed from the Cabinet five Independents said to be close to Nationalist Congress Party NCP leader Sharad Pawar, even as the ministers claimed they had resigned before the Chief Minister could sack them.
Chautala sworn in
CHANDIGARH: Indian National Lok Dal leader Om Prakash Chautala was on Saturday sworn in as Haryana Chief Minister ending a spell of political uncertainty caused by resignation of the minority Bansi Lal government. Chautala, who emerged as a consensus choice for the chief ministership of all non-Congress Opposition parties and six independents, told newsmen that he would seek a trust vote in the state Assembly on Tuesday .

RAJKOT: A person in his late 60s performed Kamal puja8217; by beheading himself with a sharp knife at Shiddhanath Shiv Mandir in Junagadh on Friday. According to police sources, the unidentified person8217;s head was lying near the Shivlinga whilea knife was found in his hand. There is no clue behind the sacrifice but it is common in Junagadh that people often performed quot;Kamal pujaquot; for obtaining moksha to join their souls with the God.
Students in rape case
ITANAGAR: Five school students have been arrested on the charge of rape and extortion in lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh. Of the five students arrested on Friday, two were allegedly involved in the reported rape of a 19-year old girl in a labourer8217;s camp at Yazali while the others were charged with extortion. The boys were students of eighth standard, he said.
9 killed in landslide
GUWAHATI: Nine persons, including four women and a child, were killed and 39 others injured while a child was reported missing in a landslide at the Kalapahar area of the city early Saturday morning said. Following heavy rainfall last night, two huge boulders came rolling down the Kalapahar hill before dawn and struck colony bazaar killing five people.
