Murderers nabbed

MUMBAI: The city police have arrested an armed gang of dacoits involved in several incidents of committing robbery by murdering lonely people in flats. Joint commissioner of police crime D Sivanandhan said that three cases of sensational murders of housewives for robbery that took place on August 21, 1995 at Bhayander, August 14, 1998 at Mira Road and February 5 this year at Dahisar have been solved, following the confession by the five members of the gang arrested yesterday.

MANGALORE: In a daring jail break, three inmates of the Mangalore Jail, including a notorious counterfeit note and stamp paper dealer, slipped away today. Police said Bhaskaran Nair, who was arrested in connection with cases of fake stamp papers and counterfeit notes, escaped along with two others by cutting open two iron rods.

Fake currency

PARTAPGARH: Five people, including two printing press owners, have been arrested here for their alleged involvement in printing counterfeitcurrency notes of Rs 50 denominations. Gang leader Ramdin Varma, was among those arrested yesterday, police said.
