MOSCOW: Russia8217;s opposition-dominated parliament today begins debating whether to impeach president Boris Yeltsin, who yesterday abruptly dismissed his prime minister in defiance of the assembly8217;s Deputies. Yeltsin8217;s sacking of prime minister Yevgeny Primakov and his eight-month-old government, plunged Russia and its economy into turmoil.

MUMBAI: An internet opinion poll conducted by The Indian Express has found that 64 per cent of respondents wanted the Vikrant to be converted into Asia8217;s first floating museum. The poll which covered 1429 respondents, saw 918 rooting for the ship and 457 saying it should be scrapped.
Emission norms
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court today rejected pleas by auto manufacturers and Union Government for extension of the deadline fixed by it for implementing stricter emission norms in registration of private non-commercial vehicles in the National Capital Region NCR.
Stone throwersheld
MUMBAI: The Railway Police caught two teenagers red-handed pelting stones at a local train in Santacruz on Thursday evening.The two boys, Balaji Shivshankar Goswami 18 and Gulshan Kumar Nandkishore Jaiswal 15, both residents of Santacruz east, were seen throwing stones from platform no. 4 of Santacruz station at 7.30 pm.
BSE breaches 4,000
MUMBAI: Stock prices on Thursday zoomed on sustained purchases by FIIs and spurted the BSE sensex by 137 points beyond the psychological barrier of 4000.
