NEW DELHI: In a major breakthrough in the Jessica Lal murder case, Delhi Police today claimed to have identified and moved for arrest of a person related to former President S D Sharma as one of the alleged culprits. The suspect, Siddharth Vashisht alias Manu Sharma is son of former Union Minister and Rajya Sabha member from Chandigarh, Vinod Sharma whose brother is the son-in-law of the former President.

Delhi hottest

NEW DELHI: Heat wave tightened its grip over the national Capital with the city experiencing the hottest May day ever forcing Delhi government to close all schools for summer vacation from Monday, almost a fortnight in advance. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 44.4 degrees Celsius.

No Octroi

MUMBAI: Maharashtra governor Dr P C Alexander has given assent to the bill passed by both Houses of the state legislature during the Budget session, to amend the Maharashtra Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats and Industrial TownshipsAct, 1965, on April 30, 1999. This bill which seeks to abolish Octroi from municipal council areas from May 1, has, thus, become an Act.

Police station attack

JAYANKONDAM: As many as 55 people of T.Palur village in TN have been arrested for allegedly attacking a police station. A group of villagers had assembled in front of the police station and resorted to stone-throwing, demanding the registration of some cases.
