Rohit Sharma experienced the other spectrum of life on Friday after he was dismissed for a first-ball duck in the Vijay Hazare Trophy Group C match against Uttarakhand at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. His team, however, went on to win the match by 51 runs and maintain their undefeated start to the tournament.
Wicketkeeper-batter Hardik Tamore top-scored for Mumbai, with an unbeaten 93 off 82 balls. The brother duo of Sarfaraz Khan and Musheer Khan made identical scores of 55, and late cameos from Shams Mulani (48 off 35 balls) and Shardul Thakur (29 off 21 balls) took Mumbai to 331/7 in 50 overs.
Opening batter Yuvraj Chaudhary led Uttarakhand’s chase, making a run-a-ball 96, and was supported by J Suchith, who made 51. But none of the other batters offered the requisite support, and Uttarakhand eventually ended up with 280/9 in their 50 overs.

Centuries from Aryan Juyal and Rinku Singh, and a half-century from Dhruv Jurel helped Uttar Pradesh clinch a commanding 227-run win over Chandigarh in a Group B match at the Sanosara Cricket Ground ‘A’ in Rajkot. Opening the batting, Juyal made 134 off 118 balls with seven fours and eight sixes, while Rinku, who walked out to bat at number five, made an unbeaten 60-ball 106 with 11 fours and four sixes, three of the maximums coming on the leg-side.
Jurel, who made 80 in the previous match against Hyderabad, scored a brisk 67 off 57 balls to help his side reach an imposing total of 367/4 after 50 overs.
In reply, the leg-spin duo of Zeeshan Ansari and Vipraj Nigam took combined figures of 6/64 in 13.3 overs to help bowl Chandigarh out for 140 in 29.3 overs and seal the win for their side.

Vidarbha batter Dhruv Shorey equalled the record for the most consecutive hundreds in List A cricket, scoring his fifth century in a row in the Group B match against Hyderabad at the Sanosara Cricket Ground ‘B’ in Rajkot. The right-hander equalled N Jagadeesan’s record, who also made five hundreds during the 2022-23 Vijay Hazare Trophy season. His performance helped Vidarbha notch up 365/5 in 50 overs, and Hyderabad fell short by 89 runs.

An unbeaten knock of 164 off 135 balls from Yashvardhan Dalal helped Haryana defeat Saurashtra by six wickets in the Group D match at the Alur Cricket Stadium II in Bengaluru. Chasing 254 runs, Haryana were reduced to 22/2 and also lost Nishant Sindhu, who had to retire hurt. The wicketkeeper-batter led the recovery with Parth Vats, putting on 190 runs for the third wicket and helping Haryana win the contest by six wickets.
Brief Scores: Saurashtra 253 all out in 48.1 overs (Desai 101, Sammar 83; Kamboj 3/30) lost to Haryana 256/4 in 39 overs (Dalal 164 not out, Vats 67; Panwar 3/51) by six wickets.
Devdutt Padikkal continued his outstanding white-ball form with a 137-ball 124, which helped Karnataka beat Kerala by eight wickets in a Group A match at the Narendra Modi Stadium Ground ‘B’ in Ahmedabad. Karun Nair, who walked out at number three in the second over of the chase, made an unbeaten, run-a-ball 130 as the duo’s 223-run stand for the second wicket helped Karnataka recover from 1/1 and win the match by eight wickets with 10 balls to spare.
