
Justice Tipnis appointed Lokayukta
MUMBAI: Justice V P Tipnis, judge of the Bombay High Court, is being appointed as the Lokayukta of Maharashtra. Justice Tipnis succeeds Justice H H Kanthania, whose term expires on December 31. Justice Tipnis, who was elected as the judge of the High Court in 1986, was to retire in October 1999. Justice Kantharia was on medical leave for more than a year, and Uplokayukta Jairaman was officiating as the Lokayukta. Justice Tipnis will take over the new assignment on January 1, 1999.
Pension hike
NEW DELHI: Retired Central government employees will get not less than fifty per cent of the minimum pay in the revised scales introduced from January 1, 1996 of the posts last held by them as pension. Similarly, they will get a family pension not less than 30 per cent of the minimum pay in the revised scales.
Train derails
MUMBAI: Five coaches of the Mumbai-bound Rajdhani Express derailed between Anus and Bordi stations of Western Railway in Panchmahaldistrict of Gujarat this morning. The five derailed coaches included the pantry car.
MLA surrenders
PATNA: Suspended BJP MLA Dhruv Bhagat today surrendered before the court of the designated CBI judge, S K Lal, in a conspiracy angle case of fodder scam. He was evading arrest ever since arrest warrant was issued.
