PWG ambush kills 10 cops in AP

WARANGAL: Twelve persons, 10 of them policemen including the sub-inspector of Pasra police station, were killed on the spot in a landmine blast near Motlagudem village, about 78 km from here, this afternoon. The police team was coming back from Narlapur village by a jeep when it was ambushed by suspected naxalites of the outlawed People’s War Group. The team led by sub-inspector Gopichand went to Narlapur on information that some landmines were stashed away near the village.

Veer Savarkar’s bodyguard dead

MUMBAI: FREEDOM fighter Swatantra Veer Savarkar’s erstwhile bodyguard Appa Kasar passed away on Wednesday evening. He was 82. Kasar was with Savarkar since 1930 and was active during India’s freedom struggle. He also took part in Goa’s Mukti Sangram. Chief Minister Manohar Joshi expressed grief on the death of Kasar. He said the country has lost a great freedom fighter.
