
Orkay Ind, Modiluft, to be liquidated
MUMBAI: Orkay Industries Ltd and Modiluft Ltd have come under liquidation for non-payment of dues. The Mumbai High Court has appointed a provisional liquidator for Orkay Industries following a petition filed by the Maharshtra State Financial Corporation MSFC. On the other hand, the Delhi High Court has ordered the winding up of Modiluft Ltd and appointed an official liquidator to take charge of the company and its assets on a petition by Air UK Leasing Ltd.
Assam strife
GUWAHATI: Two persons including a jawan were killed and a businessman was kidnapped in Assam today although the situation in violence-hit Kokrajhar district remained peaceful. A lance naik and an ULFA militant were killed during an encounter between a joint force of CRPF and police and the militants at Bhutiagaon in Nagaon district.
Curfew in Poonch
JAMMU: Nine persons, including a policeman, were killed by militants in two separate incidents in Poonchand Doda districts of Jammu and Kashmir since last night while curfew was imposed in Poonch following violence and arson.
Ayodhya case
LUCKNOW: A special court today fixed May 22 for framing of charges in the Ayodhya demolition cases against all the 49 accused persons, including Union Home Minister L K Advani and Human Resource Development Minister M M Joshi. The Special Judge CBI, J P Srivastava, fixed the date after the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad HC reserved its order on criminal revision petitions filed by 33 out of 49 accused challenging the special court8217;s summoning order.
Nurses8217; stir
NEW DELHI: Health services in the Capital remained crippled for the second day today with the striking nurses rejecting the government8217;s offer for talks minus any hike in pay. 8220;The strike is on. We will not relent until the government accepts in toto our demands on pay, allowances, accomodation, filling up of vacancies and establishing a nursing directorate,8221; the generalsecretary of Delhi Nurses Union, spearheading the stir, told newsmen.
Cabinet expansion
NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet will be expanded by the month-end, according to PM8217;s political advisor Pramod Mahajan. He told journalists today that Cabinet expansion would take place after the President returns to the country on May 10 and before the session begins on May 27.
Farmers8217; suicide
NAGPUR: Four farmers 8212; three in Yavatmal district and one in Chandrapur 8212; reportedly committed suicide on Tuesday due to destruction of their crops and indebtedness, a statement issued by a farmers organisation said here on Wednesday.
