
Butcher’ of ’84 riots gets life sentence
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court today commuted to life imprisonment the death sentence awarded to Kishori, infamous as butcher of Trilokpuri’ for killing several people during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, but upheld his conviction for hacking to death three persons during the riots.
Sewerage deaths
MUMBAI: Two sewerage maintenance workers, Motilal and Sanjay, died today when they had gone to attend to a choked drain at Devi Chowk in Dombivli due to toxic fumes inside.
Cold wave toll
PATNA: With nine more deaths reported from Bihar in the last 24 hours, the cold wave toll in the state has risen to 42. Reports from Darbhanga and Aurangabad said while six people perished due to severe cold in Aurangabad district, three people died of cold in Darbhanga district.
Fire in Dadar
MUMBAI: A major fire erupted around 10.30 pm at Gautam Nagar on Dadasaheb Phalke Road behind Shindewadi, Dadar (East) after a stall caught fire. Thefire-brigade was engaged in dousing the flames at the time of going to press. Police are investigating.
