Brain fever toll 158
HYDERABAD:
The toll in the dreaded brain fever Japanese Encephalitis gripping several parts of Andhra Pradesh for the past one month, rose to 158, with more deaths reported today.

As many as 16 suspected brain fever cases were reported today from various districts, a bulletin issued by the State Health Department said here.

Sociologist dead
BANGALORE:
Doyen of Indian Sociology, Prof M N Srinivas died in Bangalore on Tuesday morning after a brief illness. He was 83, and leaves behind wife and two daughters. Prof Srinivas was a world-renowned social anthropologist and an international authority on Indian society, in particular the caste system.
