Guwahati: The banned United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) has expressed its willingness to hold talks with the Government but also set three pre-conditions including mandatory discussions on `sovereignty of Assam’. The other two conditions are that the negotiations should be held outside India and in the presence of United Nation representatives. Asserting that the talks would be held in a conducive atmosphere, ULFA stated that it was not opposed to talks.

Actor moves HC

Kochi: Malayalam film actor Jagathy Sreekumar, an accused in a case relating to the abduction and rape of a girl from Vithura, on Tuesday moved the Kerala High Court seeking the quashing of the charge-sheet filed against him in the case. The charge-sheet had been filed against Sreekumar and three others in the judicial first class magistrate court, Ernakulam, where the trial is going on. The case has been posted to December 11.

Farmer killed

Bhiwani: A farmer was killed and 36 people, including some policemen, were injured in a stampede following a police lathi charge on agitating members of the Kisan Sanghars Samiti. The Samiti was trying to organise a rally parallel to the one organised by the state Chief Minister Bansi Lal at Loharu near here on Monday, police said. The trouble arose when the police tried to disperse the crowd. The farmers have been agitating against the Haryana State Electricity Board for not replacing power transformers while the board has been asking them to clear their power bills first.

MP land scam

Jabalpur: In a landmark judgement, a division bench of THE mADHYA Pradesh High Court on Tuesday quashed an order of Chief Minister Digvijay Singh pertaining to the Madhotal multi-crore land scam and returned the matter to the state government for passing `a proper speaking order’. The bench, comprising chief justice A K Mathur and justice S K Kulshresta, stated that the impugned order of the state government did not disclose reasons for which the recommendations of the Lokayukta justice G P Singh had not been accepted.
