MUMBAI, April 5: Tornado comprising Cdr SC Joshi, Cdr Rajiv Pusalkar, Capt NS Rawat and Cdr Ravi Gaikwad won the 80th Competition of the Addicts Golfing Society of Western India sponsored by Classic Stripes at the United Services Club Course today.

In this stableford event on the full handicap over 18 holes, the three best scores of the four member team were taken into consideration to determine the champions. The skipper of the team, Joshi (handicap 11) contributed 38 points, Pusalkar (22) 39 and Rawat (22) 38 for an aggregate of 115 points.

The runners-up were Bulldozers with 114 points, contribution being made by Cdr Rajiv Chandoke (12) 37, Veeranjan Nath (14) 36 and Satpal Singh (17) 41. Suresh Nath was the fourth member.

Satpal Singh turned in the best individual score with 41 points. He went out in 20 and fired six nett birdies to be the winner in under 60 group. Three others finished with 40 points. They were Kishore Musale, Capt KS Sekhon and Mrs S Dasgupta. The best individual scores in theother two categories were by CMDE S Bhandoola with 36 in the over 60 group and capt DB Mohindra with 34 in the over 70 group.

RC Golf concludes

The three-day Royal Challenge golf training programme organised in association of David Leadbetter Golf Academy (DLGA) concluded today.The first day participants included well-knowm golfers such as twice Indian Open champion Feroz Ali, Amit Luthra, kiran Kanwar, Suresh Vasudevan, Amish Jaitha and Digraj Singh.

In today’s session for CEO’s roped in the likes of Harsh Goenka, Aditya Puri and Rana Kapoor.

The programme was conducted by Mark Reid, Director of Golf DLGA who highlighted the finer points of the game and provided exclusive insights into the game through DLGA’s techniques.

Today’s highlight included short game, a subject on which most weekend golfers pay too little attention. Reid imparted techniques that are easier to execute and require little practice.

Aditya Puri, MD- HDFC Bank said, “This is definitely making it easier,” as he saidwhile neatly demonstrating a 25-feet chip shot. Many training aids were used to allow the CEOs to explore the modern and sophisticated techniques.
