Jitendra Mehra new I-T chief

Jitendra Mehra, an Indian Revenue Service officer of the 1964 batch assumed charge as Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Pune.

Mehra was appointed Chief Commissioner of Income Tax in Pune after his predecessor Asha Mehra became a member of the Central Board of Direct Taxes recently. Before taking charge in Pune Jitendra Mehra was Chief Commissioner of Income Tax at Ahmedabad and has carried out a number of special projects in finance and management.

Muktangan Mitra awards

Muktangan Mitra will commemorate the firth death anniversary of Dr. Anita Awachat, founder director of Muktangan De-Addiction Centre on Tuesday by instituting the Sangharsha Sanman Puraskar.

Alex Fernandes, a Mumbai-based journalist who edits a bi-monthly magazine WE and suffers from juvenile diabetes has been selected for the award for his efforts in helping patients suffering from the same disease. Dr. Himmatrao Bavaskar, who has done research on scorpion bites and found atreatment will also be awarded, a release issued said. The awards will be presented at a function to be held at Mahratta Chamber of Commerce and Industries on Tuesday.

Seminar on excellence

Institute of Management Education will organise a seminar on `Quest for excellence’ at the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) from 3 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. The speakers include Dr. K Rajan George, K K Taparia, D A Gadgil, Dr. Anil Lamba, Dr. B S K S Chopra, Ravi Arapurakal, Currim Buoy and V D Kher.

Tapkir elected

Vishnu Tapkir has been elected chairman of the Shree Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Paduka Devasthan.

Other office-bearers are Pandurang Tapkir, vice-president, Mukundrao Gokhale, secretary, Lalasaheb Tapkir, treasurer, and Balasaheb Tapkir, trustee.

Bhajan festival

Bharatiya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal’s Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and Vinayakrao Patwardhan memorial committee will organise a bhajan festival at the college fromFebruary 16 to 18, from 6.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. During the festival, Upendra Bhat, Shaunak Abhisheki, Pandit Vidyadhar Vyas, Vijay Sardeshmukh and Kalapini Komkali will present bhajans. There is no entry fee.

Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree said the designation gives law enforcement “enhanced powers to combat a group that has instilled fear through violence and intimidation”.
