Will Smith was recently in Dubai for the Middle East premiere of his National Geographic show Pole to Pole with Will Smith. While interacting with the media at the event, Will opened up about his fondness for Bollywood and how he has been developing relationships with some of the industry’s biggest stars over the years, with the hope of eventually starring in a Bollywood project.
While speaking to Gulf News, Will was asked if he would ever be seen in a Bollywood film. The actor responded by revealing that he has previously been in talks with Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, though nothing eventually materialised. He said, “I was talking to Salman. We had things we were talking about. I was trying to get into something with Big B, you know. He told me I could be Big W, so we were cool – we were sharing the title. There were a couple of things over the years… nothing panned out.”
Will Smith also acknowledged Shah Rukh Khan’s supremacy in Hindi cinema and revealed that he has directly asked the superstar to cast him in a project. “I want Shah Rukh to put me in something, Shah Rukh what’s up,” he said.
In Pole to Pole with Will Smith, the actor is seen throwing himself into incredible challenges over a span of 100 days — skiing to the South Pole, catching a giant anaconda, milking a venomous tarantula, climbing mountains, and diving under the ice of the North Pole.

When asked about his experience of shooting the show, Will admitted that climbing the Himalayas was particularly tough. Speaking about the challenges, he said, “There were things we did on this show that you would never be allowed to do on a movie set. We did things that usually the stunt man would have to do. We walked from 12,000 to just over 14,000 [feet]. I was crawling. I couldn’t move at all. And we were with a 70-year-old woman who was easily walking up and down the mountain,” Smith recalled.
Talking about the lesson he learned during this extreme experience, Will added, “The major takeaway for me was how fear destroys your possibility to experience beauty. If you’re scared in a relationship, you can’t really experience the best of that person. If you’re scared in nature, you can’t take those extra couple of steps into where the most beautiful part of it is. Fear really destroys your ability to be happy.”
