Securing a lower berth on this new semi-high-speed train is likely to become even more challenging, as most passengers prefer it while booking tickets.

Since the train will pass through scenic hilly areas, many travellers would not want to miss the opportunity to enjoy the views. The passengers are often left disappointed when, despite selecting the “lower berth preference” option, they are allotted side upper, middle or upper berths due to seat availability.
Thus, it’s important for passengers to be aware of the latest rules and guidelines regarding Indian Railways’ lower berth reservation policy for Howrah-Guwahati-Howrah Vande Bharat Sleeper Express.

Under the Indian Railways’ computerised reservation system, male passengers aged 60 years and above and female passengers aged 45 years and above will be automatically allotted a lower berth while booking tickets for the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express.
However, this allotment will be subject to the availability of lower berths at the time of booking. In addition, when a passenger is travelling with a child who does not require a separate berth, the system will allocate a lower berth, if available.
The passengers preferring lower berth for travel in train should keep in mind that at the booking reserved tickets through internet, there is a provision to opt for booking only if lower berth is available. In such case ticket shall be booked only if lower berth is available.
