Pune, october 22: A Lthough hosts Pune District retained the overall general championship trophy for the second year in succession, the concluding day’s thunder was shared by Pravita Kaushik of Mumbai City District and Megha Ingale of Solapur who created new meet marks in girls under-22 section in the Maharashtra State senior and boys and girls under-22 athletic championship which concluded at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports City Mahalunge-Balewadi near here on Sunday.

Mumbai City won the men’s general championship mustering a tally of 126 points while hosts Pune were runners-up with 90 points.

Pune won the women’s general championship aggregating 93 points and getting the better of Mumbai City who totalled 45 points. The boys under-22 title was claimed by Pune with 136 points to Mumbai Suburban’s 54 points and in the corresponding girls section, Pune scored 100 points while Mumbai City could collect 45 points only.

Pune athletes showed their awesome power coming on top in the women’s as well as boys and girls under-22 sections and finishing runners-up to Mumbai City in the men’s section to lift the development Credit Bank Limited (DCBL) general championship trophy aggregating a tally of 419 points.

The wonder boy of Pune, Sachin Navale, who won the 100 metres sprint in record time of 10.7 seconds on Saturday, capped it up by winning the 200 metres sprint stopping the clock at 22.5 seconds and in the process completed a fine double in the boys under-22 section.

Pravita, the gangling lass, won the 400 metres run clocking 58.3 seconds and in the process improved on the previous record of 59.4 seconds standing in the name of Leena Chavan of Mumbai City established in 1998.

The slightly built Ingale was head and shoulders above the rest to win the demanding 10-km walk event in a time of 1:09:15 and in the bargain bettered the standing record of 1:10:35 created by Shikha Savak in 1995.
