All about Atre
Obsession has often been defined as an acute state of mind, to procure something that you have a fancy for. So it is with Suhas Bokil, who has an exhaustive collection on all aspects that encompass the life of the renowned Acharya Pralhad Keshav Atre. After visiting cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Aurangabad, this collection, called Acharya Atre Sahitya Darshan8216;, is currently on display at the Balgandharva Kala Dalan.

The outcome of 37 years of untiring efforts, his collection includes nearly all the writings penned by Atre, nearly 500 editorials written by him in the daily Maratha, as well as about 130 books and over 300 articles written about him. His lectures, his letters, clippings from his films Shyamchi Aai, Mahatma Phule and Sanyukta Maharashtracha Buland Awaaz, photographs, audio tapes of his lectures, and other such material that can give us an insight into this litterateur.

8220;It all started when I was 14, after listening to him speak at Pen, Raigarh, in the year 1960. My objective is to expose people to the illustrious world of Atre and acquaint them with his immense contribution to Marathi literature,8221; says Bokil. Truly, as he says, this collection is a lakh molachi theva collection worth millions!

Some clean fun!
What is the best way to become environmentally conscious and spread its awareness? Go cycling up the Great Himalayan Range! That8217;s exactly what the Big Foot Trekking Club is all geared up for. Come July 11, 10 members from Pune will be touching the world8217;s second largest glacier, the Bahra Shigri, and cleaning up garbage, along the route of their ambitious expedition.

States K P S Brar, chief organiser, 8220;Lying on the Great Himalayan Range and flanked by the mighty Karakorams, Ladakh and Zanskar Ranges, this is a land of barren slopes, rivers emerging from giant glaciers, mountain peaks towering 20,000 feet and gorges so deep they seem to touch the core of the earth. Part of the Tibetan Plateau and located in the districts of Lahaul, Kinnour and Spiti, this region is snowbound and closed to outsiders for the major part of the year and has become very popular with Delhites.8221;

As a result, garbage, in the form of plastic, cans and bottles, is aplenty, and the enthusiastic team plans to clean it, as a part of their environmental campaign. Says Brar, 8220;Areas to be cleaned include the Kalpa and Baspa Valleys, the Kunzum Pass and trails to the Chandrataal moon lake and the Bara Shigri Glacier.8221; That8217;s quite a venture, not to mention adventure!
