
Mr Yogi8217; exits at 45Noted actor and theatre personality Mohan Gokhale who became a household name with the television serial, Mr Yogi, passed away in Chennai early on Thursday morning due to heart failure. He was 45 and is survived by his parents, wife Shubhangi Sangvi and a daughter.
His mortal remains will be brought to Pune via Mumbai past midnight. Family sources said that the funeral will be held in the early hours of Friday. Gokhale was shooting for Kamal Hassan8217;s new film, Hey Ram, in Chennai when he passed away in his sleep early this morning. Gokhale who had a passion for theatre since childhood won a number of awards at the college and State-level.
He was the founder-member of the Theatre Academy at Pune. He also directed celebrated actor Nana Patekar8217;s first play in Marathi, Bhau Murarrao, penned by Vijay Tendulkar. Gokhale began his theatre career with, Farari, directed by Ravindra Mankani.
He won a State-level award for his role in Vijaya Mehta8217;s play, Mahapur. Kasturimrug was his first play. He also acted in the Govind Kulkarni8217;s Marathi film, Banya Bapu along with Bal Karve. Although his first television suspense serial, Shwetambara, won acclaim 15 years ago, he shot into fame with the popular serial, Mr Yogi. He worked in parallel cinema in films such as Bhavani Bhavai, Mircha Masala and Holi opposite Nasiruddin Shah and Smita Patil.
Recently, he played the role of Gandhi in Jabbar Patel8217;s film on Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. Currently, he was working in several tele-serials including Aashirvad, Alpaviram and Zanjeerein.
