Three days after retired Lieutenant General K S Mann succumbed to injuries sustained in a hit-and-run incident, the accused vehicle involved in the fatal accident remains unidentified, reportedly due to the absence of CCTV coverage at the accident site.

The 83-year-old former Army officer was critically injured on Friday evening and later passed away at Command Hospital, Chandimandir, on Saturday. Despite sustained efforts, Panchkula police has so far been unable to trace the driver or the vehicle responsible for the incident.

Police officials said the exact spot where the retired Lt Gen was hit had no CCTV cameras installed, hampering the probe.

“We are scanning footage from cameras installed in the surrounding areas in the hope of tracking the movement of the suspected vehicle,” Sub-Inspector Sukhwinder Singh, officiating Station House Officer of the Mansa Devi Complex police station, said.

The postmortem is yet to be conducted as police are awaiting the arrival of Mann’s son from the US. The procedure will be carried out once the family completes the required formalities.

Lt Gen Mann is survived by his wife and two sons. One of his sons is a serving Colonel in the Indian Army, while the other is an officer with the Canadian Police. He was the brother of Brigadier (late) Sukhi Mann, a celebrated officer of the Parachute Regiment.

Police have appealed to the public to share any information related to the accident, including eyewitness accounts or dashcam footage, to help identify the offending vehicle and bring the accused to justice.
