
Cong-RPI bag six chairmanships
The Congress-Republican Party of India RPI alliance bagged the chairmanships of six out of 12 divisional committees of the Pune Municipal Corporation PMC with the BJP-SS and Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi alliance sharing the remaining six.
Each divisional committee comprises at least nine to 12 wards. While the elections of various divisional committees like Vishrambaugwada, Ghole Road, Kasba Peth and others were held peacefully, an hour-long ruckus prevailed during the election of the chairperson at the Aundh divisional committee.
Anjani Nimhan of the MVA also the outgoing chairperson was pitted against Shailaja Khedekar of the Congress. With the absence of one of the MVA corporators Hanumant Darekar, the tally for voting Nimhan fell short by one as compared to five votes from the Congress. Nimhan allegedly raised a hue and cry by announcing that one vote of the Congress was not valid thereby demanding the use of the casting vote. Later Khedekar was elected as chairperson.
A few tense moments prevailed during the election of the chairperson at Karve Road divisional committee when Sheela Raut of the Congress was defeated in the first round. The alliance partners MVA-BJP-SS had pitted their own candidates which saw BJP8217;s Shashikala Mengade beating MVA8217;s Meena Khatate to win the election. The tie between MVA8217;s Prakash Mantri and Congress8217; Kamal Dhole Patil was resolved with the Congress giving a casting vote to the latter for securing the post of the chairperson for the Pune Station Road divisional committee.
Among the Congress corporators who won the chairmanship include 8211; Nilesh Nikam 8211; Ghole Road divisional committee, Sanjay Balgude 8211; Tilak Road divisional committee, RPI 8216;s Navnath Kamble at Hadapsar divisional committee and RPI8217;s Ashok Kamble at Yerawada divisional committee. BJP corporators who won the chairmanship include Ashok Yenpure for the Vishrambaugwada divisional committee, Satish Misal for Sahakaranagar Divisional Committee- Shiv Sena8217;s Shrikant Pujari bagged the chairmanship of Bibvewadi divisional committee while MVA corporators Devki Shetty and Ramakant Andekar won the posts at Kasba Peth and Bhawani Peth divisional committees respectively.
