Indutai, who cheered the leprosy-hit, bids adieu
Eminent social worker and founder of Anandgram Leprosy Rehabilitation Centre at Dudulgaon near Alandi, Indutai Shankarrao Patwardhan died here this morning at a private hospital following prolonged illness. She was 72 and unmarried. She was cremated late this afternoon.

Born on May 14, 1926 in the royal family of Jamkhindi, now in Karnataka, Indutai devoted herself to social upliftment when she was a teen. Concerned about the plight of children and women in the society, Indutai went to Mumbai to take formal education in the children education. She joined the Redcross Society during World War II. She was posted in Myanmar, where she worked for a few years. After World War II, she came to Pune. She was associated with the blind men8217;s association.

Indutai set up a centre for rehabilitation of the leprosy patients at Dapodi in the late sixties. She got government aid of Rs. 30 for every patient. The centre was later shifted to Dudulgaon near Alandi.

Boy dies in septic tank
Nikhil Namdeo Utkule, the five-year-old son of a tailor from Junnar, died after falling inside a septic tank near his house on Saturday afternoon.

Nikhil was reported missing ever since he left home to play cricket with his older brother and a friend around 3.30 p.m. on Saturday. His body was fished out of the tank near his house last morning.

Sub-inspector S A Gawli from Junnar police station said Nikhil went to fetch the ball behind the temple and did not return. Nikhil8217;s father had reported the incident to the police on Saturday evening. Nikhil8217;s body was found inside the tank on Sunday morning.
