BJP hits a sixer8217; as Cong team plays for Sonia
BJP corporators on Friday succeeded in getting approval of the general body for the conversion of Karvenagar agricultural zone into residential zone despite stiff opposition from the Pune Vikas Aghadi and Congress.

Taking advantage of absence of Congress corporators in the meeting because of Sonia Gandhi8217;s visit to the city, the BJP corporators urged the deputy mayor Bhagwan Kshirsagar to take the issue on priority. Several corporators belonging to Congress and PVA took objection to Kshirsagar8217;s decision to initiate the discussion on the issue.

PVA corporators including Arun Dhimdhime, Aba Bagul and Shashikala Kumbhar urged deputy mayor to postpone the discussion since a large number of corporators were not present at the meeting. They alleged that BJP was pushing the resolution since several BJP leaders had invested their money in land in Karvenagar area. Kshirsagar, however, called for voting on the issue. Seventeen corporators voted in favour of the resolution while 15 voted against it.

The resolution was moved by Shashikala Mengdde of BJP and Ananta Bhoj, an independent on March 17 last. The resolution was passed by both standing committee and city improvements committee. However, Congress corporators submitted a letter to standing committee for reconsideration of the resolution.
