Christians to demonstrate
Indian Christian Movement will hold a day-long dharna in front of the district collectorate on January 7 to protest against the recent series of attacks on Christian churches and community.

The decision was taken at a meeting of representative of various churches and church institutions held on Monday.

John Rock Paul, corporator and president of the Indian Christian Movement, presided over the meeting.

The meeting also decided to seek dismissal of the Gujarat Government if the attacks on the Christian community did not end.

Meanwhile, an all-religious meeting convened by Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi8217;s Bopodi block committee on Monday condemned the assaults on Christian community in Gujarat. Pradip Gupta presided over the meeting. The speakers included Manoj More, Anil Jadhav and Juber Pirjade.

Chain snatchers back in action
After a lull in incidents of chain snatching, there has been a rise in cases where unidentified persons have been stealing gold ornaments by promising to polish the valuables.

Two unidentified persons on Monday walked away with gold bangles belonging to a 23-year old housewife, a resident of Shukrawar Peth. They walked into the house around 11.30 am and said that they would polish gold valuables.

The complainant Preeti Rajendra Gandhi handed over her two bangles worth Rs 16,000 to the duo who asked her to fetch some water. The persons pretended to dip the bangles in the vessel and by deceit escaped with the bangles.

There have been at least two incidents in the last couple of weeks in which unidentified persons have deceived women by taking away the gold ornaments on the pretex of polishing them. In another case, ornaments worth Rs 16,000 were stolen by unidentified thieves from a woman travelling in a PMT bus from Swargate to Sangvi. The incident occured at around 8 pm. Taking advantage of the rush, the thieves cut the purse belonging to Nanda Manoj Mane and took away the valuables.

Teachers8217; strike
The Pune district Junior college teachers association on Monday started its chain hunger strike in front of distric collectorate as a part of the State-wide agitation for implementation of Fifth Pay Commission recommended revised pay-scales for junior college teachers.

Meanwhile, Palak Sangh Kriti Samitee , a parents8217; organisation has extended its full support to the teachers8217;s strike.
