Railings on Sinhagad ghat soon: Gadkari
State Public Works Minister Nitin Gadkari has agreed to install iron chains on Sinhagad ghat similar to those in Pasarani Ghat to prevent accidents on the road leading to Sinhagad fort. The Akrahazar point8217; on the road is a major accident-prone spot claiming several lives, the latest being the one in which the Risbud couple from the city along with their six-year-old child were killed.

Following strong public outcry over safety hazards on the ghat road after the tragedy, MLA Girish Bapat and city corporator Ujjwal Keskar appealed to the minister to install iron chains. 8220;A delegation of BJP corporators will follow-up the issue with city chief engineer,8221; said Bapat in a press release on Sunday.

Fruit vendor murdered
Thirty eight-year-old, Baban Sopan Gade, was murdered by some eight unidentified people.

The police are investigating the motive, but suspect that the incident may have occurred over some dispute. Gade received grievous injuries on his head as he had been stoned. The murder took place at Janata Vasahat near the foothills of Parvati. Gade had been admitted to a private hospital and later shifted to the Sassoon Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Gade was a fruit vendor at the Mahatma Phule market.

Fire causes panic
A grass fire near the campus of the National Institute of Bank Management NIBM, Kondhwa caused panic among local residents this evening. The fire began to spread at around 6.30 pm on open land. It destroyed several small trees and shrubs in the area. The residents were enraged as they suspected that the grass was deliberately set on fire. Two fire tenders put out the fire.

Jawan killed
An Army jawan was killed when his motorcycle was hit by a speeding truck carrying sand on Pune-Alandi Road in the wee hours of Sunday.

The pillion rider sustained serious injuries in the accident. The deceased has been identified as Prabhu Kisanrao Magar 30 of 101 Infantry battalion. His friend Bal Gunda Patil 40 of the same battalion, who was riding pillion, has been admitted to Cantonment Hospital.
