Sports science centre on varsity agendaCombining health with academics, the University of Pune will establish a health club and sports science centre having a swimming pool, jogging track, gymnasium and yoga training facilities.This decision was taken by the university's medical advisory committee. The three-member committee headed by Dr Bhushan Patwardhan was set up by the management council in June this year. The committee has chalked out a complete health promotion plan for the university.Accordingly, the university will organise a series of health education lectures in Pune, Nasik and Ahmednagar that come under the University of Pune, said an official press note issued by the university here today.It will also look into the possibilities of establishing subcentres of students' health service scheme in Nasik and Ahmednagar. A meeting of college principals at the two districts will soon be called to deliberate over the issue, the note said.As part of the curative services recommended by the committee, the university will buy an ambulance for transporting emergency patients to the nearest hospitals. For hospital services, the university has recognised some hospitals in Pune Municipal Corporation area and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation area to facilitate it's employees and their dependents to avail of medical services if required.In the academic section, the university, in collaboration with the University Health Centre and School of Health Sciences, will start a certificate course in first-aid from the current academic year.Water closureWater supply to the entire city, suburbs and surrounding areas will remain closed on Sunday evening because of some urgent repair works of the Mutha right bank canal to be undertaken by the irrigation department.According to a press note issued by Pune Municipal Corporation, the water supply will resume on late Monday morning, but with low pressure.One-way lanesThe lane linking Hotel Shailaja on Jangali Maharaj Road with Sadhuji Gaikwad road in Shivajnagar gaothan has been converted into one-way for vehicles heading towards Jangali Maharaj Road.Parking of all vehicles on the stretch between Kunal Complex and Deokar building has been banned totally, according to deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Prakash Pawar.The lane linking Rajsanket building on Jangali Maharaj Road with Samagra Kranti Yuvak Mandal chowk on Sadhuji Gaikwad Road has been made one-way with entry for vehicles heading towards Sadhuji Gaikwad Road. Parking of only two-wheelers will be allowed between Joshi chowk and Samagra Kranti Yuvak Mandal chowk.
