
PCB moves to check cholera outbreak
Following the detection of a positive case of cholera in Solapur Bazaar area, the Pune Sub Area headquarters has directed its troops and families to stay off food and drinks sold in Solapur Bazaar area.
Sub Area commander Brig Madan Gopal said the directives had been issued as a preventive measure to check the possible spread of cholera.
Brig Gopal said the station health officer Lt.Col. Pushkar Singh who inspects eateries had advised a cholera test in a case registered with the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Cantonment General Hospital. It tested positive.
Following this, a message has been conveyed to the district health officer, director of Public Health, Maharashtra and the medical officer of the Pune Municipal Corporation.
The Shiv Sena unit met cantonment executive officer J Sharma today urging him to take all possible measures to combat the possibility of a cholera outbreak. The activists pointed out that stagnant water flowing from choked drains and toilets in this area posed a major health hazard. A delegation led by leaders Dilip Girimkar, Laxmikant Bulbule, Satish Bhosale Rakesh Kadam, Ashok Gaikwad, Mohan Narayan, Rajesh Kurhade, Chetan Gaikwad among others met the CEO and blamed the apathetic attitude of the cantonment officials in cleaning up the area.
CEO Sharma, who refuted the possible outbreak of cholera in Solapur Bazaar area, clarified that only a single case had been detected and the concerned person worked with a catering group which accepted orders outside the cantonment. 8220;This is nothing to do with the cantonment,8221; he said.
However, the board now intends to step up measures to improve sanitation and hygiene in the cantonment area besides its drive to remove the illegal food vendors. 8220;We are already taking steps to disinfect the area besides fogging it,8221; he explained, adding that there were very few cases of choked drains in the cantonment.
