Professor R C Sobti, vice-chancellor of the University, said, “We have a non-teaching member in the Senate for the first time. Dharam Pal’s name was recommended by nine non-teaching unions to be included in the list. Both Professor Ronki Ram, President, Panjab University Teachers’ Union and Dharam Pal are ex-officio members who will have a term of one year.”

Talking about the visit by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Sobti said, “The NAAC members have assessed the university. While the positive points of the university are worth highlighting, the authorities will try to bring in changes as suggested by the committee.”

He further added, “I will try to execute the recommendations that are within my capacity. I do not completely agree or disagree with the committee’s observations. The university’s welfare has to be kept in mind before implementing any decision.”
