
CHANDIGARH, Oct 30: The Punjab State Council for Science and Technology organised an orientation workshop for deputy commissioners, additional deputy commissioners and district planning officers at the Punjab University.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajan Kashyap, Principal Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, said the government will be coming up with a compendium of environmental guidelines for the deputy commissioners. Rajan Kashyap added that the District Environmental Committees, headed by DCs/ADCs, have been set up in order to enhance Government-Industry Interface.
Punjab State Council for Science and Technology Executive Director N.S. Tiwana, in his lecture on role of district administration in environment protection emphasised that development activities need to be taken up with an integrated sector-oriented approach and larger projects be avoided in ecologically sensitive areas.
Business Club holds lecture
A lecture on quot;Commercialisation of Infrastructurequot; was organised by the Business Club of Panjab University Business School today.
The key speaker on the occasion was Pardeep Singh, Chief Executive Infrastructure of I.L. and F.S. and visiting faculty member at the Harvard University. He discussed the reasons as to why infrastructure was not commercialised in India and the need and techniques for commercialisation.
He stressed the importance of an efficient legal framework in the development of infrastructure. However, he said, commercialisation is not the cure for ills, so it will have to be tested over a period of time.
