BARODA, August 1: Top seeds Petroleum Sports Control Board PSCB from Group A and Banks8217; Sports Control Board BSCB from Group D recorded contrasting wins on the opening day in the team events of the 28th All India Inter-Institutional Table Tennis Championships, here, today.

Reigning champions, PSCB recorded a 3-0 win over Postal Sports Control Board while the BSCB beat new entrants Steel Plant 3-1.

National champion Chetan Baboor, former National champions Arup Basak and S Sriram all recorded straight games victories against their lesser known opponents to guide PSCB to an easy win.

Sunil Babras won his singles against Sameer Sarkar after youngster Souvik Dey had given BSCB a 1-0 lead by drubbing Umesh Goswami 21-12, 21-14.But BSCB8217;s Vinit Chopra, was shocked by Rohit Modak Steel Plant 19-21, 21-15, 15-21 in the third singles before Babras saw his team home when he rallied to beat Goswami 12-21, 21-14, 21-13.

In other one-sided opening matches, All India Electricity Sports Control Board AIESCBdefeated State Bank of Indore 3-0, Food Corporation of India beat Major Ports Sports Control Board 3-0, State Bank of India sidelined Telecom Sports Control Board 3-1 and Life Insurance Company crushed Central Civil Services and Cultural Sports Board 3-0.
