CHANDIGARH, Sept 10: A protest march was taken out here today against the quot;worseningquot; of law and order situation in the state. Over 150 persons gathered at the Kisan Bhawan roundabout and marched to the Chandgiarh Housing Board roundabout in the afternoon.

The protest was staged by the activists of the Punjab unit of Janata Dal Secular, its youth wing, a rape victim and her family. Led by party8217;s Punjab unit convener Harish Khanna, the protestors later submitted separate memorandums to Governor B.K.N. Chhibber and Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal. They dispersed after submitting the memorandums.

The memorandums stated that the incidents of abduction, rape, looting, murder and atrocities on the downtrodden and women have assumed quot;alarming proportionsquot; in the state.

The protesters demanded the removal of state Minister Gurdev Singh Badal for the alleged involvement of his son, Suba Singh, in a rape case. They also demanded that Suba Singh arrested. The police, deployed in full strength, had to divert the traffic till the agitation ended.
