NEW DELHI, November 20: More than 50 eminent academicians from both the Delhi University and the Jawaharlal Nehru University have appealed to the voters of Hauz Khas constituency to vote for Congress candidate Kiran Walia who is a lecturer in Laxmi Bai College.

Amongst the academicians are Prof Bipan Chandra (well-known historian), Prof V P Dutta (former pro-vice chancellor, DU), Mohit Sen (political activist), Prof Mridula Mukherjee (JNU) and others.

Prof V P Dutta told Express Newsline: “Sushma Swaraj is presiding over a government that has driven people to despair. Never has the price rise caused so much pain to people. We appeal to the people to defeat the BJP government”.

The academicians have begun a signature campaign against the BJP government. “Communal tension is the bread and butter of the BJP. The party has distinguished itself by dividing Indian society along communal lines,” said Prof Aditya Mukherjee from JNU.
