The UP government had invoked POTA against Independent MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya after recovering an AK-56 rifle and other weapons from his residence in Kunda during a police search on January 28. However, notings in the files at the CM’s residence say that the orders were actually issued on January 23 — five days before POTA was slapped on the three. Also, Raja and his cousin were already in jail when searches were carried out at their residence.
UP CM Mulayam Singh Yadav has ordered a high-level probe into the lapse and an application has been moved in the POTA court, Kanpur, for withdrawal of case against the accused.
