AMBALA, July 15: The executive officer of the the Ambala Cantonment Board has been charged with receiving tenders for the annual maintenance works of the board by violating the procedure laid down in the board rules.

Alleging this, vice-president of the board Virender Kumar, in a complaint addressed to the president, Cantonment Board, Brig. Satnam Singh, sub-area commander, stated that the board executive officer J.S. Dhadwa had recieved tenders because of his vested interests after the tender box was sealed.

Kumar in his complaint said that the tenders were to be received by 3 p.m. on July 1st in the office of the cantonment board. He and two other board members were supposed to be present at the time of putting of the tenders in the box. The box was sealed by pasting a paper on expiry of the scheduled time so that no tender was received after the prescribed time.

But to our surprise, the executive officer got removed the pasted paper of seal as some more tenders were allowed to be put in tender box, alleged Virender Kumar. He further alleged that such an illegal act on the part of the EO amounted to gross violation of the cantonment accounts code. The vice-president urged the president to order an investigation into the matter by the Vigilance Department.

Dhadwa however, said that the matter would be discussed at the board meeting, slated to be held tomorrow.

He denied the allegation that that he had give any undue favour to anyone while receiving the tenders.
