CHANDIGARH, July 23: The Committee for Coordination on Disappearances in Punjab today demanded a high level inquiry by the Punjab Human Rights Commission into the recent arrest of a number of persons for reviving militancy in the state.
Committee convener Ajit Singh Bains challenged the police version at a news conference here. He referred to the latest case registered against Rajiv Singh Randhawa and others in Amritsar and the Burial jail break conspiracy. Randhawa is a key witness in the Jaswant Singh Khalra case.
Bains alleged state police chief P. C. Dogra was raising the bogey of revival of terrorism to get extension. He said the police officials who were involved in such conspiracies should be suspended and prosecuted.
Bains questioned the police version of the arrest of three persons near Batala. In case of Amarjit Singh Sohal, a telegram was sent to the Punjab and Haryana High Court after his arrest from the village. Darshan Singh was also arrested from his House and the village panchayat met the police officials seeking his release. Both of them have been shown to have been arrested from the Batala bye pass.
Bains said alleged recoveries of arms and explosives was also false. He said Paramjit Kaur, wife of Jaswant Singh Khalra, was booked in a false case. He said four cases had been registered against Kikkar Singh, another witness in the Khalra case.
