University freshers lack basic life skills: study

One in 10 11 pe rcent said that didnt know how to cook at all,more than a fifth 22 per cent have never shopped for food on their own,while 13 per cent have never done their own ironing,reports the Daily Mail.

Setting up on their own for the first time,69 per cent said that they were new to paying utility bills and 68 per cent said it was their first time paying rent.

The results are based on a poll conducted this September by the UK student and graduate market research group Opinion Panel.

Living alone for the first time with the responsibility for studying,managing finances and making new friends can be a daunting prospect, said Natasha Virtue,from Sainsburys Finance.

Wed urge students to take time to think about their finances,there are lots of helpful tools online for example on the UCAS website itself, she added.
