Russia has imposed a crackdown on the use of fireworks in a bid to tighten fire prevention measures in the country after the tragic nightclub fire in the Urals city of Perm killed 152 people. The sale of fireworks to children under 16 has been banned and curbs have been imposed on the use of pyrotechnics in the public places. Meanwhile,with the death of two young women on Thursday in hospitals the death toll in December 5,Perm city based nightclub blaze has risen to 152,forcing the authorities to tighten fire prevention measures including crackdown on the use of fireworks during the New Year celebrations. The decree signed last night by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin also bans the use of fireworks indoors,inside the buildings and structures of any kind as well as on the roofs,balconies etc,the government press service said. "The demands are part of the fire prevention regime and their compliance is mandatory for all the Russian and foreign citizens to protect the life and health of the citizens,property of individuals and companies,state and municipal assets," the government decree said. The fire in the Lame Horse night club began after an indoor firework display went wrong causing the wicker-decorated ceiling to catch fire. According to RIA Novosti 74 people are still in hospitals of which 20 in grave condition. In Moscow the city authorities have assigned open grounds in residential areas,where only people can light fireworks on the New Year or else face a heavy fine.
