Pulling up the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) for failing to provide clean drinking water to residents of MGA Hisar, the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has imposed a fine of Rs 5 Lakh on HUDA.
Public authorities spent more money on contesting cases than the amount they might have to pay to the claimant. In addition thereto, precious time, effort and other resources go down the drain in vain, said the NCDRC bench presided over by V B Gupta.
The residents of MGA,Hisar had approached the district Consumer Forum with the complaint that even though plots in the residential area had been opened to purchase by HUDA,there was no supply of clean drinking water and no provision for management of waste. The authority argued that they were supplying water in the morning and evening through two tubewells, and there was no need to provide canal water.
The officials of the petitioner authority in the present case are bent upon not to provide the water which is fit for human consumption to the allottees of the respondent and have acted in a very shameless manner, the bench said.
