India registered a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over Pakistan in their second and final World T20 warm-up game at The Oval on Wednesday. Rohit Sharma, opening the innings for the second straight game in place of the injured Virender Sehwag, continued his good show with the bat, hitting a sterling half-century. Gautam Gambhir scored an unbeaten 52,as the duo raised 140 in 16 overs in pursuit of 159.
Rohit scored 80 off just 53 balls including nine boundaries and two sixes, while Gambhir gave him company, hitting five boundaries,as Pakistan bowlers struggled with their line and length. MS Dhoni was unbeaten on nine as India wrapped it up with three overs to spare.
Earlier,a top-order collapse notwithstanding,Pakistan managed to post a competitive total of 158. The arch-rivals were meeting for the first time since the Asia Cup final in Karachi last year and the day-night encounter defied the practice game notions with a sell-out crowd witnessing strong emotions and fierce competition.
Misbah-ul-Haq engineered the rescue with an unbeaten 37,sharing an unbroken seventh-wicket stand of 45 runs with Yasir Arafat. The partnership lent stability to the innings that was rocked by a reckless top-order batting.
Brief scores: Pakistan 158 for 6 Y Khan 32,Misbah 37 not out,Yasir Arafat 25 not out vs India 159 for 1 in 17 overs R Sharma 80,Gambhir 52 not out .
