Olympic silver medallist shuttler Nathan Robertson has been selected as the flag-bearer of the England contingent at the opening ceremony of the crisis-hit Commonwealth Games on Sunday.
The 33-year-old Robertson, who won a silver in the team event and a gold in the mixed doubles with Emms at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games, said it was humbled to be bestowed with this honour.
8220;I found out last night. It is a huge honour and something you dream about. I8217;m slightly humbled,8221; he said today.
England, which brought 371 athletes to New Delhi, have finished runners-up in the medal rankings at the last three Games and are likely to face a tough competition from Canada and India at the Delhi multi-sport event.
England have seen many pull outs, including world and European heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis and world triple jump champion Phillips Idowu and so the onus would be on the other senior athletes such as Rebecca Adlington,Gemma Spofforth swimming, and Tom Daley diving.
