Rani Rampals double strike went in vain as India suffered their second consecutive defeat in the womens hockey World Cup,losing 3-6 to Australia.
Ashleigh Nelson scored twice for Australia late last night while Madonna Blyth,Casey Eastham,Nicole Arrold and Shelly Liddelow found the net once each. For India,Ritu Rani managed the other goal.
India are still without points in the tournament after suffering two defeats in as many matches and will take on Germany in their next pool A match.
Both teams looked scrappy and were guilty of giving away possession early on. But Australia slowly got into their groove and controlled the proceedings,taking lead in the 17th minute.
India bounced back twice but ran out of steam,conceding three goals in six minutes. Meanwhile,in other matches of the day,the Dutch beat New Zealand 7-3 while Germany scrapped past Japan 2-1.
