Mumbai police chief Arup Patnaik moved out

Patnaik was assailed by MNS chief Raj Thackeray at his protest rally.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik was transferred today amid mounting criticism of his failure to prevent the August 11 violence at Azad Maidan.

Patnaik,who has been promoted to the rank of director general of police and made managing director of Maharashtra State Security Corporation,has been replaced by Additional Director General (Law and Order) Satyapal Singh.

Home Minister R R Patil described Patnaiks transfer as a routine administrative process. Patil and Patnaik were assailed by MNS chief Raj Thackeray at his protest rally on Tuesday against the August 11 violence.
