Race to hit longest six on the cards at Kotla today as Delhi host arch-rivals Mumbai

While all eyes are expected to be on skippers Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag when Delhi Daredevils meet Mumbai Indians at Kotla on Sunday, another high-voltage face-off has the potential to steal the spotlight from the big stars. Two Australians with a knack of sending the ball on stadium roof tops will be on the field and the bowlers wouldn8217;t be able to breath easy till they see them walking back to the dressing room. With such a reputation Delhi Daredevils8217;s David Warner and Mumbai Indians8217; Aiden Blizzard, big hitter custom-made for the Twenty20 format, have it in them to take IPL 4 by storm.

Besides the reputation, the 24-year-old Warner and the 26-year-old Blizzard have a lot in common. Both bat left-handed,play with the unique square-toed Kaboom willow and are fighting to find a regular place in the longer version of the game for their state side. But the one thing that has seen them constantly bracketed together is their race to hit the longest six.

Presently, because of a technicality Blizzard has the bragging rights as his sixes have recorded a distances of 130 and 150 meters. Unfortunately, when Warner has hit the sweet of spot of his bat after his powerful swing there have been no machines on the ground to measure the distance. Once at the massive Sydney Cricket Ground he sent the ball into the 20th row of the stands and another of his sixes landed on the roof of the Adelaide Oval.

Second meeting

In case both Warner and Blizzard get into the mood on Sunday, the flora and fauna around Kotla might be under threat. Though, this happens to be their second meeting at Kotla. In the 2009 Champions League semi-final,the two met at Delhi but neither fired and the much promised duel ended in a damp squib.

Daredevils coach Greg Shipperd by virtue of being at the helm of affairs at Victoria back home has been on the receiving end because of both Warner and Blizzard.

Warner has had some good scores and I am happy with the way he has matured in recent time. Hes got a 100 and is looking to get a berth in the longer version. But we all know how big a player he is in T20 format and one of the best talent Australia has, he says.

While the mentor to Mumbai Indians squad Shaun Pollock expects big things from Blizzard. I haven8217;t seen much of Aiden bat but seen some videos and he looks a real promising cricketer who has the ability to hit some massive sixes. So I am pretty excited about him,and look forward to see him hit some real big ones, says Pollock.

Warner, given the limited big faces in the Daredevils,is assured to bag a berth while Blizzard might sneak into the playing XI because of the absence of Keiron Pollard, away on national duty. This also explains the strengths of the two teams. Mumbai with a pool of talented players is among the favourites to win the tournament but the same cannot be said about Delhi. But in case Warner falls in the groove, the Daredevils fans will bring the roof down at Kotla.

Overview: On the face of it,Mumbai seem to be runaway winners with a star-studded team that boasts of Sachin Tendulkar,Andrew Symonds,Harbhajan Singh,Lasith Malinga,Rohit Sharma to name a few. Delhis strategy during the January auction was inexplicable but still they have a clutch of good T20 players who are eager to make a mark for themselves.

Key contest: Lasith Malinga vs Virender Sehwag,Morne Morkel vs Sachin Tendulkar. In both match-ups,the bowlers dominated in the World Cup. Come Sunday, the outcome of Sehwag vs Malinga might determine the result of the game.

Big-name benchwarmer: No Keiron Pollard in the squad but Mumbai still have to choose among James Franklin,Dilhara Fernando,Moises Henriques and Aiden Blizzard.
