Malaysian model accepts flogging for drinking beer

The 32-year-old part-time model was arrested on charges of consuming alcohol when Islamic authorities raided a hotel at Cherating in August last year.

Kartika was sentenced on Monday to six lashes and a fine of USD 1,400,by Shariah High Court in the country. Alcohol consumption is a religious offense for Muslims in Malaysia the offenders are fined or caned and given a prison term of maximum 3 years.

Kartika,who now resides in Singapore said her husband respected her decision.

This is the second time Shariah Court here has imposed whipping on a female. The first was on a waitress and a man who were caught together with Kartika.
